For our 2015 dance show, I came up with the concept of Dancing through the Decades.
Marilize writes in her Show Programme:
I was born in the 70s. From an early age I was exposed to a variety of music. Songs like Barbra Dickson’s Caravans, Staying Alive by the Bee Gees and Mamma Mia from Abba come to mind.
Thinking back about the 80’s bring back memories of cassettes (or tapes as we used to call them), crazy hair, bright colours and off course the one and only Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and hit movies like Flash dance and Footloose. I also remember that all of us wanted to do the Moonwalk and that one or the other new craze hit us every few months.
The 90s arrived and we were all mesmerised by Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix, the awesome moves & funky pants of MC Hammer, The Macarena, and the start of the Spice Girls. I remember when the first CD players arrived in South Africa and how excited we all were!
With the dawn of the 2000s everyone was afraid that the Y2K Virus would wipe out all technology but here we still stand. Today we have cool songs like Uptown Funk, Thinking out loud, Torn and Fireball. With the show Dancing through the Decades, we took our dancers and audience on a magical journey through the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
